Julie Dexter - Conscious
Birmingham born Dexter now resides in Atlanta. 'Conscious' is a strong sophisticated follow-up to the more edgy 'Dexterity', this is a collection of 11 well written mid-tempo songs, complete with strong messages. 'Choices' with its multi-layered harmonies and the more up-tempo groover 'Like Ours' are the most immediate tracks. Highlight is, however, the haunting 'Show Me Now' a catchy duet with Michael Johnson with some nice Bobbi Humphrey style flute. 'Small World' evokes memories of a Rod Temperton song, whilst 'See Colours' is a more uptempo Samba-ish jazzy dancer. This album gets better each time you hear it !
