Det kommer inte vara ren rocking på toprock battlen men man kommer kunna se tex freestyle momentet från rockingen som top rocking bygger på.

Jag har en fråga.
Varför är det ett big no-no enligt många att blanda rocking med breaking? Folk tar ju allt möjligt från alla andra danser, inga problem där, men när det gäller rocking så verkar helt andra "regler" gälla.

Bra fråga, det är upp till var och en. Vill du blanda så blanda.
Men
Vi brukar separera de två pga av att det är olika danser som utförs på olika sätt.
Top Rocking kommer från rockingens freestyle del.
Man brukar säga att de klassiska grundstegen i top rocks är
2-step/Indian Step mm
Cross Over Shuffles
Charlie Rocks
Spreads
om jag inte minns fel. Titta på tidiga band så ser man. Spec sent 70 till ca 90-
Tops från tidigt 70 hade mer character och mer likheter med freestyle rocking. Se Frosty Freeze.

Sen finns det en hel hög med olika characters

För mig personligen: 2 olika danser från samma mamma respektera dem för vad dom är.
Behärska dem innan man gör ngt annat med dem.

BUSHWICK ROCKIN lead to the JERK STYLE/ UPROCK
BRONX ROCKIN lead to TOP ROCK AND LATIN BBOY STYLE of BREAKIN
remember BREAKIN originated in the BLACK COMMUNITY first
then Bronx Latinos got involved with Breakin and mixed the Bronx Style Rockin into Breakin
Bronx Rocking was all FREESTYLE...

It's true, Rockers also had a down rock style, i teach the BX version of the Down Rock in my class,
BUT.....it was nothing like Bronx Breakin
I went from Rocking to Breaking (mid 70's) cause the Brothas ground moves were way more advanced than the rockers ground moves
the Black Comunity was coming off the Lindy Hop and HOOFIN generation as well as JAMES BROWN, JACKIE WILSON, NICHOLAS BROTHERS, ect
But also....the Rockers top style was way more advanced than original BBOY Top Rock

Ask any OG Rocker and they will tell you
all Rockin was Freestyle in the late 60's early 70's (no Jerk style)

THE ROCK AND HOW IT CAME TO BE


The Rock dance styles and moves and flava go back to the Boogaloo/ BUGALU
Latino's mixing Jitterbug steps and Mambo to Latin Soul music

If no one knows what the Boogaloo is, they should research it...

All the steps are there, you will see it when a salsero does a latin solo, then breaks into what we identify as a rocking step
they also did drops, sweeps, catch beats, and all that
Rockin is an extension of the Latin Boogaloo that existed in the early to mid 60's, all the clubs in Manhattan were catered to Black and Latinos, the music began to blend when Latin Musicians started jamming with the Black musicians to please both crowds.
then African Americans started learning Mambo steps and steps like the Suzy Q, and Latinos started freaking JitterBug style steps, and they all freestyled. the Music began to change into a breakbeat style of music (more up tempo), which is why you hear cats Like James Brown shoutin out Boogaloo, and soul bands started saying the funky boogalo, boogaloo became a common word in Soul music during this time...
and the music catered to it...

the boogaloo movement was eventually takin over by the Salsa movement (partnering)
THATS RIGHT THE BOOGALOO WAS RIGHT BEFORE SALSA!
It was Fania records that supposedly purposely conquered the Boogaloo moevement with Willie Colon and Hector Lavoe (thats the rumor)...

Rock Bands coming off the 60's acid rock movement started Hiring and adding these Black and Latino musicians to there music as well... thats why you here congas in 60's rock Music

Most Latin Rockers were already rockin Mambo in the clubs, now if you add skips and hops to Mambo steps you have Rockin steps..now do it Latin Soul and BOOM!...that easy

Most of the clubs that catered to Rockin were Latin Clubs to begin with.. so it was an easy transition from Boogaloo to the new Rockin styles

I was told that Rubber Band stressed the importance of Acid Rock Music to cats..
This must be why The Rock dance got away from the clean cut boogaloo look to a more grungy SOUL LOOK

Fania also had boogaloo artists oListen to Joe Bataan!
all his music was based on Boogaloo, and it was straight Ghetto music!

There is a clip of hector lavoe rockin Boogaloo dance moves, drop cork screw and all dat!

this is why it seems like Rockin just came out of no where... But it did'nt it was already in the mix..
it was an all city dance
